다음은 레너드 스위트 미국 드루대 석좌교수가 15일 서울 장충체육관에서 강연한 ‘21세기 교회를 위한 예수 선언’이라는 주제 강연의 일부 내용이다. 이날 4000여 참석자들은 스위트 교수의 선창으로 ‘나노 매니페스토’를 한 목소리로 읽어 내려갔다. 이 선언문은 레너드 스위트와 프랭크 바이올라의 신간 ‘예수 선언: 예수 그리스도의 주권과 권위의 회복을 위한’ (Thomas Nelson, 2010)의 팸플릿 판이다. 이 책은 2010년 6월 1일 발간될 예정이다. Nano-Manifesto: When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for the body of Christ to come to its senses and spell out the biblical bands which define it, the Spirit of God impels us to arise in the same confidence as our ancestors who unwaveringly proclaimed “the present truth” for their day and time and declare the causes which compel this Manifesto. 나노 매니페스토 인간사의 과정 속에서 그리스도의 지체를 위해 성경의 사람들이 의미하는 것을 깨닫고, 표현하는 것이 필요하게 될 때, 하나님의 영은 우리로 하여금 우리의 조상들이 그들의 시대를 위해 흔들림 없이 "현존하는 진리"를 선포했던 것처럼 동일한 확신을 가지고 일어나도록 하시며, 그러한 연유에서 이 선언문을 선포합니다. We hold these truths to be biblically-evident, that all people have fallen short of the glory of God, that they are endowed by their Creator with a Savior, who is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, our risen, rising, and reigning Lord. He is the heat in our heart, the marrow of our mind, and the art of our life. 우리는 모든 사람은 하나님의 영광에 미치지 못하며, 창조주가 우리들에게 그리스도시며, 부활하시어 우리를 통치하시는 나사렛 예수님을 구세주로 주셨다는 진리가 성경적으로 분명한 것임을 믿습니다. 예수님은 우리의 심장의 열기이시며, 우리의 생각의 정수이고, 우리의 삶의 예술이십니다. Alas, much of the contemporary church has short-changed Jesus. It has replaced Christ with methods, strategies, concepts, principles, doctrines, programs, fads, gimmicks, etc. and has lost Him who is the Center and Circumference of our faith. 안타깝게도 오늘날 교회는 예수님을 오해하고 있습니다. 오늘날의 교회는 그리스도를 방법, 전력, 개념, 원칙, 교리, 프로그램, 유행, 유사품으로 바꾸어 놓았고, 우리 신앙의 중심이자 테두리가 되시는 그리스도를 잃어버렸습니다. To demonstrate this, we submit the following to a candid world: 이것을 증명하기 위해 우리는 솔직한 세상을 향해 다음의 내용을 제시합니다. Jesus Christ is the subject, goal, and motivation of our faith and devotion. 예수 그리스도는 우리의 신앙과 헌신의 주체이시며, 목적이고, 동기입니다. Jesus Christ came to show us how to be a new kind of human, a Jesus kind of human. He came to do what Adam failed to do. He is the firstborn of a new humanity. 예수 그리스도는 어떻게 새로운 종류의 인간, 예수님과 같은 인간이 될 수 있는지를 보여주시기 위해 오셨습니다. 예수 그리스도는 아담이 실패한 것을 이루시기 위해 오셨습니다. 그 분은 새로운 인류의 장자이이십니다. Jesus Christ is the “e” that turns the human into the humane? Emmanuel? God with us. 예수 그리스도는 인간을 인간적으로 바꾸시어 우리와 함께하시는 임마누엘의 하나님이십니다. Jesus Christ is alive. He lives. He lives His resurrection life in and through us?members of His beloved bride?the body of Christ on Earth. 예수 그리스도는 살아 계십니다. 그는 이 땅에서 그리스도 지체로서 사랑하는 신부가 된 우리 안에서, 그리고 우리를 통해서 부활의 삶을 사십니다. Jesus is the Way. What is Christianity? It is Christ. 예수님은 길입니다. 기독교가 무엇입니까? 바로 그리스도입니다. Jesus is the Life. What is the gospel? It is Christ. 예수님의 생명입니다. 복음이 무엇입니까? 바로 그리스도입니다. Jesus is the Truth. What is truth? It is Christ. 예수님은 진리입니다. 진리가 무엇입니까? 바로 그리스도입니다. Truth is personified in a person. That person is Christ. Truth is not an ideology. Truth is not a philosophy. Truth is not an ethics. Truth is Christ. When the gospel truth becomes something other than Christ, the church suffers from JDD: Jesus Deficit Disorder. 진리는 한 인간 안에서 인성으로 나타납니다. 그 사람은 그리스도이십니다. 진리는 이념이 아닙니다. 진리는 철학이 아닙니다. 진리는 윤리가 아닙니다. 진리는 그리스도입니다. 복음의 진리가 그리스도가 아닌 것이 될 때 교회는 예수결핍장애(JDD: Jesus Deficit Disorder)에 걸립니다. The gospel is the “good news” that Beauty, Truth and Goodness are found in Love, the Love of God in Christ. The mystery of life has a name: LOVE. God is love, and there is no God outside of Jesus Christ. Hence there is no authentic love outside of Jesus. The Greatest Lover that this universe has ever known says to each and every one of us, “Follow me.” 복음은 그리스도 안에 내재하는 하나님의 사랑에서 발견되는 아름다움과 진리, 그리고 선에 관한 "기쁜 소식"입니다. 생명의 신비는 사랑이라는 이름을 가지고 있습니다. 하나님은 사랑이시고, 예수 그리스도를 떠나서는 하나님이 존재하지 않습니다. 예수 그리스도를 떠나서는 진정한 사랑은 없습니다. 이 우주가 알고 있는 가장 위대한 사랑은 우리 각 사람에게 "나를 따르라"고 하십니다. Not “Follow my preachings” "나의 설교를 따르라."가 아닙니다. or “follow my teachings” "나의 가르침을 따르라."가 아닙니다. or “follow my practice" 나의 실천을 따르라."가 아닙니다. But “Follow me.” 단지 "나를 따르라."고 말씀하십니다. Not “follow me” to become more “like me.” That is too low an ambition for a Christian. "나를 따르라"는 것은 "나와 비슷하게 되어라"는 것 이상입니다. 이것은 크리스천으로서 너무나도 작은 열망입니다. Not “follow me” to “mimic me.” But “follow me” to “manifest me.” "나를 따르라"는 것은 "나를 흉내내라"는 것이 아닙니다. "나를 따르라"는 "나를 나타내라"는 것입니다. Not “follow me” to “imitate me.” But “follow me” to let my Spirit be implanted in you and to you. "나를 따르라"는 것은 "나를 모방하라"는 것이 아닙니다. "나를 따르라"는 그리스도의 영이 우리 안에서 그리고 우리에게 심겨지도록 하라는 것입니다. Not “follow me” to become more “like me.” But “follow me” to “become part of me.” “I am in you and you are in me, as the Father is in you and you are in Him. You are my sister and you are my brother.” This is not a metaphor. Our greatest dream is to write with our lives a Jesus autobiography. "나를 따르라"는 "나와 비슷하게 되어라"라는 뜻 이상입니다. "나를 따르라"는 "나의 일부가 되라"는 것입니다. "아버지께서 네 안에 네가 아버지 안에 있듯이 내가 네 안에, 네가 내 안에 있는 것이다. 너는 나의 자매요, 너는 나의 형제이다." 이것은 은유가 아닙니다. 우리의 가장 위대한 꿈은 우리의 삶을 예수님의 자서전 안에 쓰는 것입니다. The “Jesus of History” cannot be separated from the “Christ of Faith.” The Jesus who walked the shores of Galilee is the same person who indwells the church today. Christianity is not nor ever was WWJD (“what would Jesus do?”). It has always been and ever will be WIJD: “what is Jesus doing now through me . . . through us?” Jesus lived by an indwelling Father. And in His resurrection, He has become a life-giving Spirit. What the Father was to Jesus, Jesus is to us. He is our indwelling Presence. Thus the mandate of all disciples is to live by Christ just as He lived by His Father. We declare Jesus to be the gravitational pull that brings everything together and value. We declare that God’s mission in the world is less the business of fixing things that have gone wrong in our lives and more the relentless pursuit of finding us in our brokenness and giving us Christ as sheer Gift. only in the Messiah are the Medium and the Message one. We declare that God doesn’t give us “things” ? whether they be values, virtues, truths, or gifts. The Father gives us His Son ? Jesus Christ ? who is the embodiment of all spiritual values, virtues, truths, and gifts. Christ has been made unto us righteousness, wisdom, peace, power, grace, etc. He is the incarnation of all that God the Father gives. 우리는 하나님께서 우리에게 가치, 덕목, 진리, 또는 은사와 같은 "것들"을 주시지 않으셨음을 선언합니다. 아버지께서는 모든 영적 가치, 덕목, 진리, 그리고 은사의 구현자가 되시는 자인 독생자 예수 그리스도를 우리에게 주셨습니다. 그리스도는 우리에게 의와 지혜와 평화, 능력, 은혜가 되어 주셨습니다. 그리스도는 하나님 아버지께서 주시는 모든 것들의 성육신이 되십니다. We declare that Jesus the Christ is more than a cause. Jesus is Almighty God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, the Second Person of the Eternal Godhead. When the early church said “Jesus is Lord,” they did not mean “Jesus is my core value.” They meant “Jesus is the Messiah?He is this world’s new Master?He is the physical embodiment and fullness of Eternal Deity.” 우리는 예수 그리스도가 단순한 원인자 이상이심을 선언합니다. 예수님은 전능하신 하나님이시며, 왕 중의 왕이시고, 주의 주이시며, 평화의 왕이시고, 영원한 신성의 제2위이십니다. 초대교회가 "예수님이 주님이시다"라고 고백했을 때, 그들은 "예수님이 나의 핵심 가치다"라고 한 것이 아닙니다. 그들이 의미한 것은 "예수님은 이 세상의 새로운 주인이신 메시아이시며, 영원한 신성의 육체적 구현이자 성취“였습니다. We declare “The Holy Bible” to be a library of inspired books without which we cannot follow the Messiah. The Written Word is a map that leads us to The Living Word. We declare that only Jesus can transfix and transfigure the void at the heart of the church. Jesus Christ cannot be separated from His church. While Jesus is distinct from His Bride, He is not separate from her. She is in fact His very own body in the earth. God has chosen to vest all of power, authority, and life in the living Christ. And God in Christ is only known fully in and through His church. God has no hands but our hands; no feet but our feet. If we are doing today what Jesus did then, we wouldn’t be doing what Jesus did in the past. We declare the Christian life to be not an individual pursuit. It’s a corporate journey. Christ and His church are intimately joined. Knowing Christ and making Him known is not an individual prospect. Those who insist on flying life solo will be brought to earth, with a crash. 우리는 크리스천의 삶이 개인적 추구가 되어서는 안 됨을 선언합니다. 크리스천의 삶은 함께 하는 여정입니다. 그리스도와 그의 교회는 밀접히 연결되어 있습니다. 그리스도를 알고 그를 알리는 것은 개인적 탐구가 아닙니다. 삶을 독자적으로 살려고 고집을 피우는 사람은 넘어져 멸망할 것입니다. In a world which sings, “Oh, who is this Jesus?” and a church which sings, “Oh, to be like Jesus,” who will sing with lungs of leather, “Oh, how we love Jesus!” "예수가 누구인가?"라고 묻는 세상에서 "오 사랑의 주님"이라고 노래하는 사람들이 모인 교회는 "예수님을 닮으려하네"라고 노래합니다. Ask ye what great thing I know, that delights and stirs me so? What the high reward I win? Whose the name I glory in?
